Tour Schedule
On the day before our departure, our tour guides will hold a full briefing, to explain about your tour in order to let you enjoy your tour in here Japan in with confidence and fun. They will explain about Japan's riding rules, differences unique to Japan, the national culture, and of course your tour schedule in detail. On the departure day, finally we get on our bikes and start! On these important initial two days,
It's time to get in the saddle and start riding on our tour! We shall depart Kyoto city, which is laid out in sections like a chessboard, and after getting into the countryside, head to Uji, a world-famous city for “Uji Matcha”, the green tea. The first stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Byodo-in Phoenix Hall. This gorgeous place was built specifically to appear as if it is floating on a pond, with a very distinctive golden phoenix fluttering on the roof of the hall. The beauty of this painting hasn’t faded even after nearly 1,000 years. This place is also featured on the Japanese ten yen coin, so why not take a photo with the real thing? After that, we’ll ride through a beautiful tea plantation in the mountains, on the way to Nara, the very first capital of Japan in the 8th century. Nara is most famous for the Todai-ji temple and its very large statue of Buddha within. Another wonderful feature of this lovely city are the freely roaming deer everywhere!
Day3 is we will be arriving at Mount Koya, one of the sacred places in Japan, the centre of Shingon Buddhism founded by one of the most significant religious figures in Japan’s Buddhism, Kobo Daishi. Despite being a small area, there is a large concentration of venerated places such as the Kongobuji temple, head temple of Shingon Buddhism and the Okunoin, a 2 km walk to Kobo Daishi’s mausoleum. We will then ride our way through the mountains to arrive at our hotel in Shirahama, one of the most ancient hot spring locations in Japan, the name of which means “white beach”, referring to a 500 metre-long bright white sand beach, one of the main attractions of this resort area.
Day4 is the first half of the day will be spent leisurely riding along the coast with the Pacific Ocean on the right, and the second half will be spent visiting a World Heritage site nestled in the mountains of Kumano. Aquaculture (the breeding and harvesting of aquatic life) is also carried out along the coast of the Kii Peninsula, and we may be able to see the scenery of a port town unique to Japan, depending on the time of year. There are three major shrines that are registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kumano area, and the tour will visit one of them, the Nachi Taisha. Nachi Falls, one of Japan's top three waterfalls, is located very close to Nachi Taisha, and is a popular place in Japan as a power spot that promotes longevity. In fact, the three-legged crow "Yatagarasu", which has been featured in the emblem of the Japan national soccer team for many years, is actually a messenger of the gods of Kumano. They are drawn everywhere, so please look for them. After recharging your energy levels at a spiritual spot on the Kii Peninsula, please enjoy the seafood of Wakayama and rest your body whilst enjoying the scent of the ocean for the second half of the tour.
Day5 is first of all, upon leaving the hotel today we’ll visit the visually-arresting World Heritage Site of Onigajo, (“Demon’s Castle”) a nationally well-known epic area of art, sculpted by nature! This incredible place has been formed by the wind and waves over hundreds of years. After that, we travel eastwards alongside the beautiful southern coastline of the Pacific Ocean, taking in the breath-taking views whilst enjoying the wonderful twists of the coastal roads on our way to the Japan Heritage site of the Ama Huts. This place is where the world-renowned female pearl divers fish for shellfish and other delicacies of the sea, and then serve you a lovely seafood lunch freshly cooked right in front your eyes!
Day6 ride is a fun-packed day of riding and further cultural exploration, including the world-famous Ninjas of ancient Japan!
It's already the final day of this tour! Kyoto's calm atmosphere in the morning is actually a highly recommended time to explore. Why not wake up a little early and take a walk around the hotel? After leaving the hotel, we’ll head to Nanzenji Temple, where nature and history are uniquely combined. Here, you'll find Tenkaryumon, one of Japan's three largest great gates, also a beautiful garden, the national treasure Hojo (the chief priest's room in a Zen temple), and Suirokaku, a brick structure reminiscent of a Roman-style aqueduct. You can enjoy Japan to the fullest in this incredible location. After enjoying the graceful atmosphere, let's take a pleasant ride through the mountainous area on the north side of Kyoto, which is rare on standard Kyoto tours. After lunch, we’ll continue riding up the mountain and enjoy your final sightseeing tour at a thatched-roofed village, which suddenly appears out of the middle of nowhere! Then we’ll make our way safely back to the store in Kyoto before the sun sets.
