This garden, located inside the main temple of Kongobu-ji Temple, is one of the largest in Japan. It is depicted as a pair of dragons facing each other and protecting the inner shrine.
It is surrounded by the four Buddhas of the Vajra world, the 16 great bodhisattvas are on the 16 pillars, and the eight ancestors who taught esoteric Buddhism are on the four corner walls. Statues are painted on it, and the hall itself is constructed as a three-dimensional mandala.
The approximately 2-kilometer approach from Okunoin's Ichinohashi Bridge to the shrine is lined with more than 200,000 tombstones, memorial monuments, and cenotaphs of various feudal lords in a grove of cedar trees that are over 1,000 years old. The Toro-do Hall at the very back is worth going to.
The rice terraces of Shimo-Akasaka have four seasons: ``water-drawing rice terraces'' in spring, ``green terraces'' in summer, ``shelves with waving golden rice ears'' in autumn, and snow-covered rice terraces in winter. It shows a different appearance from time to time.
How about some Buddhist vegetarian cuisine served in a room at Ichijoin?
